I've enjoyed witty Ali Wentworth on Oprah's Friday panel, but had no clue who she really was. Turns out she's a comedian and actress and has a TV series on Starz called "Head Case". I take note. But that's of course not the reason why she is here...
... she owns masses of rare seashells and beautiful lilac seafans. Not only has Ali been collecting shells since childhood but upon moving to Washington DC she acquired specimens left to Harvard University by her grandmother, who explored the Far East in the 1920s for the National Geographic Society. And I love how she's lining up her treasures high on the wall..., to keep them safe from her kids, she says. You can read the article and see more of Ali's place at Elle Decor:

What a beautiful picture and shell collection...
ReplyDeleteLiving in Miami Beach, I am acquiring quite a growing shell collection from each visit. This week I visited a beach a few hours north and found some lovely shells that I don't always see in the backyard beach... shell gathering is the best!
BTW, I will get you the mosaic sources... ;)
What a fabulous shell collection.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so impressed .
Thank you for sharing .
Happy Trails
I think I've heard of her before and she looks very familiar. What an awesome collection.
ReplyDeleteShe has a wonderful collection for sure. The sea fans intrigue me the most. I adore the color scheme of her home...it's like looking inside of a shell..all silvery and pearly-like. Wonderfully decorated.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching Ali on In Living Color..she was always a hoot.
Deanna :D
I saw on another blog recently a row of cloche with white coral and seafans under them. It was a really beautiful and unusual display.
ReplyDeleteVery cool....I liked her wit on Oprah but didn't know much about her. I was really suprised when I found out she was married to George Stephanopolous (I'm sure I mis-spelled that!)....they see so opposite! :)
ReplyDeleteWell how interesting! And she's very pretty too.

Hi Maya,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I changed your blog title on my list! Interesting shell collection and beautifully displayed. I've never heard of her and missed the Oprah episode. Maybe I'll check it out. Have a beachy evening! Luanne
Wow - A fabulous display. I love finding and collecting shells too.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful shell collection and a nice way to display them.
ReplyDeletethat's a really great display. we went to the beach last month and got some pretty (if broken) shells. still trying to figure out what to do with them...
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a serious shell collection!! She has it so nicely displayed -- and good idea to have it high enough to be out of harm's way!!

Fridays are one of my favorite days to watch Oprah...its when she is the most real, with her friends.
ReplyDeleteI think that is true for a lot of us.
TTFN~~Claudia ♥
what a beautiful collection she has - love it on the shelves!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a beautiful collection. I'd love to fill a vase or wooden bowl with shells...maybe in my dream hampton beach house, which I'm hooked on this week. Too coincidental! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy, gal, Maya! Two blogs? I don't know how you do it!
ReplyDeleteI find her pretty funny and really liked both of her houses. They seem to have a lot of personal touches which I always like.
Enjoy your weekend!
looks like we're hooked!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great display!

Link Updated. Sorry it took so long...I've been so busy with Waterside Cottages book launch!
ReplyDeleteShe lives around the corner from us in G'town and we walk/drive by her house multi daily. At night you can sometimes peek in and spy some of her lovely decor. The place is pretty mammoth by G'town standards. And, she is très casual when out and about. A gal after my own sweat pant-ed heart. XXOO
