... and a living room full with people you don't know? I would love to! And that coming from a person who likes it quiet and loves her privacy and alone time. But it would be fun..., and it's lucrative too. The Kanebs declined to discuss the amount their coastal home earned while starring in the movie The Proposal..., but the fees can range from $1,500 to $3,500 a day. ReplyDeleteI am trying to think of a movie that might feature a suburban ranch house with some years of wear...well, the raccoons are launching attacks on my pond. That could provide some drama, no?
ReplyDeleteMany, many years ago I was a bartender at a small neighborhood bar in North Hollywood and a couple of times a year one of the studios would rent it out for filming. The boss would, of course, close down and take the money. He was great though, I got the day off and he paid me $250 a day. This was about twice what I typically made, so I was very happy with the arrangement!

ReplyDeleteMy friends in LA built their house specifically so it could be used in movies, etc - they work in the business, so they knew just what to do. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteGreat house! No wonder the film industry wanted to use it. There are a couple of homes on the beach in St Augustine which would translate well into movies. Of course, I drool whenever I walk by...

ReplyDeleteIn the early 80s, Sophie's Choice (with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline) was filmed in a home not far from mine in Brooklyn, NY. The family was paid well, put up in a hotel for the duration and received a lovely new exterior paint job.

It seems that many of the homes featured in movies are privately owned!

I had a freind that did that for several commercials...it was fairly lucrative and FUN!

ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see movie/tv crews at work. I live about 1+ outside NYC and the location scouts come out here looking for their "country" scenes quite a few times. I would answer the door if they came knocking.

If my house were in a movie, I think I would wear out my DVD player watching it over and over again! I love seeing the real homes they use in movies!

ReplyDeleteThere are many TV series around here that do this kind of renting. I would love to see my house in a movie though. I also know that they are also renting expensive or vintage cars..

ReplyDeleteOur old house never was in a movie, but it did star in a Sherwin Williams commercial back when the paint company was introducing its historic colors. too bad we didn't own the house back then, and have never seen the spot.
