Would you turn your home over the a movie crew...
... and have Sandra Bullock run around your yard...
... and a living room full with people you don't know? I would love to! And that coming from a person who likes it quiet and loves her privacy and alone time. But it would be fun..., and it's lucrative too. The Kanebs declined to discuss the amount their coastal home earned while starring in the movie The Proposal..., but the fees can range from $1,500 to $3,500 a day.
You might find this article in UK's Telegraph interesting: How to get your Home into Show Business..., then check out the movie and see more of this home over at my other blog Completely Coastal: Sandra Bullock in The Proposal -Rockport and Manchester by the Sea (MA) stand in for Sitka, Alaska.

Such a great house! I really want to watch this movie now! Thanks Maya.
ReplyDeleteThere are several homes on the North Shore of Chicago that have done such.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to think of a movie that might feature a suburban ranch house with some years of wear...well, the raccoons are launching attacks on my pond. That could provide some drama, no?
ReplyDeleteMany, many years ago I was a bartender at a small neighborhood bar in North Hollywood and a couple of times a year one of the studios would rent it out for filming. The boss would, of course, close down and take the money. He was great though, I got the day off and he paid me $250 a day. This was about twice what I typically made, so I was very happy with the arrangement!
ReplyDeletelovelu and fantastic house, great work by sharing these..
ReplyDelete...wish i had the beach cottage for them to film at first! i will definitely have to see this film! xo, mickey
ReplyDeleteMy friends in LA built their house specifically so it could be used in movies, etc - they work in the business, so they knew just what to do. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteGreat house! No wonder the film industry wanted to use it. There are a couple of homes on the beach in St Augustine which would translate well into movies. Of course, I drool whenever I walk by...

Ha ha, if only Sandra could be at my house, that would be amazing! I didn't really think about that when I watched the film, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
ReplyDeleteIn the early 80s, Sophie's Choice (with Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline) was filmed in a home not far from mine in Brooklyn, NY. The family was paid well, put up in a hotel for the duration and received a lovely new exterior paint job.
ReplyDeleteThe shoot is chronicled at www.flatbushvegan.com/2009/03/filmed-in-flatbush-sophies-choice.html
It seems that many of the homes featured in movies are privately owned!
ReplyDeleteI don't know! I knew the "Home Alone" family and they said it was a pain!!!
ReplyDeleteMy first visit over here
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful
I've very much enjoyed my time spent here
thankyou - I'll be back!
I would say yes yes yes, and probably accept a lot less just so I could sit and watch!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely visit!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine my little cottage in a film -- but, may not be a bad idea!
Best,
Debbykay at Rose Cottage Gardens and Farm
I had a freind that did that for several commercials...it was fairly lucrative and FUN!
ReplyDeleteYep...I would do it (even looked into it, thanks to her urging, but then we moved)
Amazing house, and an amazing movie! If I had a house, and a big emphasis on the if I would want it to be in a movie!
ReplyDeletehttp://oopsicraftmypants.blogspot.com/
I would say yes but I'm afraid they aren't asking. Wait a minute, I hear a knock on the door...
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful house.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby ancestral home used to be featured in a movie here. Actually it's so close to our place.
I'd do it in a second!! Although as much as I like Sandra Bullock, I'd rather have Simon Baker run around my yard :-D
ReplyDeleteKelly
I saw this movie - the whole time I was thinking aobut how amazing that house was!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see movie/tv crews at work. I live about 1+ outside NYC and the location scouts come out here looking for their "country" scenes quite a few times. I would answer the door if they came knocking.
ReplyDeleteRight now...no, but I live in a small cramped apartment. I hope when I get to buy a house it is movie set worthy.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Hooked On
If my house were in a movie, I think I would wear out my DVD player watching it over and over again! I love seeing the real homes they use in movies!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if I'd want them underfoot. I'm kind of a hermit. But they could be in my smallish yard, I suppose. Not that the phone is ringing...
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Well that's an interesting post, Maya. I didn't know movie crews did that sort of thing. You learn something everyday. Hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThere are many TV series around here that do this kind of renting. I would love to see my house in a movie though. I also know that they are also renting expensive or vintage cars..
ReplyDeleteGREAT BLOG, PLEASE CHECK OUT MINE, I THINK YOU'LL LIKE IT :) GIO
ReplyDeleteHi Maya
ReplyDeleteI would love for my home to be in a movie and have Sandra run around in my backyard... Don't think that will happen though! We did see a movie crew down by the harbor about 200 feet from our home, they were doing a show for children's tv.
Have a great week!
What a cool idea. I have the perfect mountain home that could be used for it. www.teddybearlodge.com What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be fun, aggravating, lucrative and all-around-grand to have a movie filmed in your home.
ReplyDeleteOur old house never was in a movie, but it did star in a Sherwin Williams commercial back when the paint company was introducing its historic colors. too bad we didn't own the house back then, and have never seen the spot.
Cute post, thanks.
