These tall
Shell Ladies are the creation of sculpture
Ann Carrington, made from real scallop shells collected from local fishermen.
The ladies are named after famous women who used to live in her coastal resort town of
Margate, England, and during the summer months they are moved around town to different locations at regular intervals.
Those are very cool and beautiful! Wow!
ReplyDeleteHI Maya!!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful.. so delicate [despite being large!]. Some ppl are so wonderfully creative it is just amazing.
Thanks for you kind comments and concern. I've decided not to clean up anymore until the weekend as just heard there may be another dust storm on Saturday [but not as bad]. Have a great week.. ! xx Julie

That is so amazingly cool! Love it...
ReplyDeleteThese shell ladies are quite unusual!Imagine the time it would take to create just one...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have a trip to Miami Beach coming up. I love going there...so many different cultures residing in one small area makes it quite interesting. Be sure to sample some of the Cuban cuisine...especially a REAL cafe con leche. Nothing better!!! And take a drive out to Key Biscayne. It's really beautiful.
As far as the sting rays...I believe you won't find them in Miami this time of year.If they are in residence, there will be postings on the lifeguard stands. Rays are quite friendly...they are often in the "petting" pools at aquariums. Don't fret about them...
Have a fabulous vacation!!!

Those are some big shell ladies. Where do they move around to?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. I adore these shell icons. They remind me of Victorian ladies-of-leisure at the seashore.
ReplyDeleteMarjorie
That is some serious art form there!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Neat!!!
ReplyDeleteBarbara..., if you click on the link Shell Ladies you'll see all the different locations.
ReplyDeleteCould you get more amazing.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how the sea can inspire such spectacular creations! There's a house in Scotland, in a wee seaside town called Anstruther, which has its external walls covered in scallop shells. Next time I'm there, I'll take a photo for you.(I featured some photos from Anstruther in my post a while back about holdaying in the East Neuk of Fife. Don't know if you caught it.)
ReplyDeleteWOWZA! These shell ladies are just huge and full of fun! Hard to imagine!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable.... just gorgeous. I have been in rest mode from the Junk, but I am back and kicking!! Have a great week! Janna
