It's called stand up paddle surfing, or SUP. And once the celebs do it, it's likely on the way of becoming a trend. Isn't that how it usually works?
And here we go! I opened the October issue of Coastal Living Magazine (check out my
Review) and see that Stand up Paddle Surfing has already made it's way from Hollywood to the quiet Golf waters of Florida's West Coast. Now non-surfers like me can get "on board" too. It does look like a fun way to exercise, what do you think?

it looks like fun but I better get to my yoga before and master balance before I take this on. makes me long for the water. something to do next summer :)
ReplyDeleteIt has become quite popular here in Coronado. The other day I was coming across the bridge and there was obviously a SUP class going on because there were, like, 50 people on boards in the bay. I tried it once, but the day I did it, the water was a little choppy and I did not want to go into the water, so I stopped. Everyone I know who does it, loves it.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but at my age, I'm just oogling Pierce Brosnon ;)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like fun! Can someone make me look like Jennifer Aniston while I'm doing it?
ReplyDeleteHuh? I hadn't seen those photos. Looks like fun, although I'm pretty sure I would spend more time in the water than up on the board.
ReplyDeletehmmmm.....you girls go ahead - i'll just hang out with pierce....
ReplyDeleteI like that Pierce has his wee safety ankle gadget on to stop him losing his board if he falls off!
ReplyDeleteIt does look fun but I think I would trip and fall into the ocean. I don't Jennifer would like that very much if that happened to her.
ReplyDeleteis PB a geek or what?
ReplyDeletewhy do you think has the board tethered to his ankle like he is in a wild surf??
:) xx love
It's also made it's way to Wrightsville Beach, NC! I think it is much milder than surfing, wind surfing or kite surfing! ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband does SUP here in Argentina, in waves, like surf. He really does windsurf, but while there is not wind, he has fun with the stand up. Good exersise for women !
ReplyDeleteLOoks like tough work to me but being on the fabulous water has gone a long wayd!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Maya
ReplyDeleteLooks just my style... slow and no waves.. hehe
I live near a fairly flat bay and it has become overcrowded with kite surfers.. i think this would be less intrusive. Must go check out your review!! x Julie
Oh.. just noticed Renee's comment.. hilarious!
I am a terrible surfer so this may be my way out :))
ReplyDeleteDo you still have to balance on the board? That's been my problem - even when I haven't had a drink.
ReplyDeleteMy son plans on spending Christmas in Key West. How much you want to bet he will be doing this? LOL....
ReplyDelete...so much fun...i can say that this is a fun thing to do for anyone of any shape or age. as they say, you only live once! xo, mickey
ReplyDeleteHi "Cape House" and all others, re: what you wrote:
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I would spend more time in the water than up on the board.
NO WAY, my 80 year old mom does it, as do my two teenage daughters and my wife's 4-yr. old grandson!!
Piece of cake, you actually have to TRY to fall off these VERY stable boards.... cheers, clay
