A Backyard Beach Hut

A twist on yesterday's post Beach Huts @ Completely Coastal. Rhonda @ Shell Belle's Tiki Hut pulled up the currency converter gadget and saw that the beach huts in Dorset run $245,000! That's of course the high range, but even a cheap one still costs you about $20,000. So what does a British gal do if she doesn't have that kind of money to spare?

She creates a credit crunch beach hut in her own backyard..., emptying and cleaning out the garden shed, painting walls and floor, rejuvenating old garden furniture...

... and now Jeanette can almost hear those waves lapping at the shore!

Read the full store @ Muswell Hill. See previous posts on How People Live.

Even though this was a Tuesday posting I decided later to join Outdoor Wednesday, because I just love this story.

  1. What fun! I wonder if I can pry our little garden shed out of the clutches of tools and such. I'd love to do something like this.

LOVE this story and what she did with her shed. We have a front shed that I keep asking Bobby G. if we can convert to a little guest house. He doesn't quite get it. LOL....

I can't believe the cost of the beach huts and would anyone actually pay that kind of money for a changing room.

I was hoping to pay that price for a small quaint beach house some day. :)

    Love your blog! ~ Lynn

  10. In credit crunches I truly believe creativity goes into full throttle. Wow thats a lot for a "hut"...I think they need to change the name.
In regards to my basil post...you definitely need to make your own pesto. Once you have you'll never go back...

  16. Maya,
I love this and actually prefer the makeshift beach hut! I am happy you enjoyed my Victorian home tour. I took the photos myself and they are all from Romeo, MI. However, I do love Newport, RI and my sister has an amazing summer home there so I am fortunate to have a lovely place to stay.

  29. I can hear the waves lapping now. That is so precious. What a creative way to turn a Man Shed into a Woman House. Love it, just absolutely love it. I am thinking about a place for one for me. I thank you for sharing you little piece of heaven and giving us others ideas of taking over the Husbands Shed. Please stop by and say hi at Country Wings in Phoenix. "Country Hugs", Sherry

  32. What a great backyard idea. As an artist who periodically paints outside on the patio, this idea would certainly livin' things up. Need to find my husband, who'll need to find his carpentry tools. Thanks for sharing this clever idea! Terri Smith, visual artist, http://dimplesdragonflies.com
