It's Cold in New England (and an Update on My Miami Beach Getaway)

I haven't gone to the beach for a while now, just for short brisk walks around the neighborhood -to stay out of the wind! Other New Englander's are (much) hardier. Katy Elliott for example who went down to the beach at sunset a couple of weeks ago in her hometown Marblehead, MA, thought that she would be the only soul braving the 20 degrees temps. "The parking lot was full. As I got out onto the beach I noticed small groups of clammers dotting the surf. Equipped with shovels, buckets, and full winter gear these clammers didn’t even seem phased."

And Sher from Fashion After Forty (who just gave me this Award -thank you very much, Sher!), ready, well not to go to the beaches in her home state of Connecticut, but to hit the slopes. A sport which I gave up when I left Switzerland -trading mountains for the coast!

Maine Beach Winter
I'm sure Maine is the best coastal winter wonderland you can experience in the U.S., but it's icy, according to Maine Momma who wrote, "... so cold even the sand was icy, and beautiful, and quiet."

I truly wish I could experience This, but I had to cancel my Miami Beach getaway.

  1. Well, according to the local papers and news, Miami Beach is experiencing the COLD...earmuffs instead of flip flops. Very few brave souls are actually on the beach this week. At least, this cold pattern will be gone by the end of the week.
Hopefully, when you get down here next, you will have fabulous weather!

  2. Well, I heard on the news this morning that it was 42 degrees in Miami, breaking a 120-year-old record. We're not exactly having great beach weather in Florida right now, I woke up to 29 degree weather over the weekend.

On a bright note, we are supposed to warm up to 72 this weekend. Maybe I'll start to unthaw then and can make my way down to the beach.

Hmmm…wonder why you had to cancel? Hope the reason is a fun one!

  3. It's cold here too -- but actually not as cold as it usually gets in January. It's supposed to be a balmy -5C today ;-) And I'm just about to head out for a ski :-)

Sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip. Hope you make it to Miami Beach soon!!

  4. Sorry you had to cancel! Hope you get some new bright adventures soon. My weather has been nice. In the 70's and I am loving. Which is why I went to the beach to eat lunch on Saturday, so pretty!

  6. The weather is so weird everywhere at the moment, we are currently experiencing catastrophic heat waves here in Australia.

  8. Maya,

Even Miami could not escape the cold; they got snow flurries a couple of days ago, so your getaway cancellation is not such a bad thing.

I just posted about Miami in my blog, with pictures and video from my recent cruise. It is a beautiful city, even better when the weather is nice.
