How would you feel if you created an intricate masterpiece and a few days later it's wiped away? The only people I know who do that are Tibetan Monks practicing the ancient art of Sand Mandalas and professional sand sculptors like Jenny Rossen.
"It is like buying a bunch of flowers; you do it for the beauty of the moment", Jenny says, who just fell in love with this art one day while she was at the beach messing around with sand.
And since there is (supposedly) a lot of very good quality sand in Dubai that's where Australian born Jenny has set up residence. "I want Dubai to become the sand sculpture capital of the world. It has the potential," she underlines. You can read the full article @ Gulf News and visit her website here: Jenny Rossen.
Jenny Rossen is also featured in Claire Murray's new book..., come check it out at my other blog Completely Coastal: Women and the Sea by Claire Murray.

Awesome sandcastle!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend Maya.
That is amazingly beautiful and she is so talented! Checking out your other blog now, what a wonderful book!
ReplyDeleteShe's so evolved, being able to let go of stunning art like this!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's incredible. I don't think I could handle creating it and then having it wiped away.
ReplyDeleteOh my! That is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever girl.. and what a beautiful sandcastle. How strange to have all that hard work disappear. x Julie
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing art form...You must be able to hold onto things lightly to not be discouraged when it all melts away....Must be the thrill of the creation process more then the outcome...don't you think?, xoxo~Kathy~ @ Sweet Up-North Mornings...
ReplyDeleteFantastic post... amazing sand castle... I wish I could do that.
ReplyDelete~Rainey~
THat is absolutely amazing. I'd never have the patience to do it!
ReplyDeleteI have always been amazed by this artform. I can't imagine how they do it...my childhood beach castles were, at the most, lumps of sand bucket shapes thrown together and quickly stepped on by one of boys.
ReplyDeleteMorning Maya...Thanks for stopping by, loved having you visit...Mackinaw is pretty much closed down during the Christmas season... I wonder if you might be thinking about Frankenmuth as one of the big Christmas meccas from HGTV...either way.. they are both a wonderful place to visit... I'll take that little Nantucket Style on your sidebar!! Wonderful.. xoxo~Kathy~ @ Sweet Up-North Mornings......(Your lucky to be on the coast)!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a Sandcastle!!
ReplyDeleteHave a Bright, Bold, and Beautiful weekend ~~
xo Laura

ReplyDeleteAMAZING! What an artist! But I can't imagine making something so intricate and in a few days it being wiped out!

I can't imagine building something like that. It's beautiful. And I love the sailboat on Dubai. Wonder if I will ever make it there? I hear it's gone bankrupt. hmmm....
ReplyDeleteIncredible! She would SO win first prize at the Jersey Shore sand castle competition. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDon't Sand Mandalas just amaze you? I almost want to cry when I see a monk's arm simply dusting the sands off to the side.
