What Reminds you of the Beach?

"I keep a bowl of sea glass on my desk to remind me of the beach. The colors are so soothing, and there’s wonderful texture in every piece", says Kay A. Fuston, Coastal Living's Editor in Chief.

For me it's local Quahog Shells and Beach Rocks.

  1. What reminds me of the beach? The crisp, tangy smell of salt spray in the air...
A few of my shells still have this slight odor, so I keep them on the shelf in my office.

  8. I would agree with the smells of beach life. And beach grass, although that is an old memories from childhood trips to my mother's family's house on Cape Cod. We don't have much of it here in California.

Washed out colors of sand and sea. Even greys of wood on the beach.

  12. The sound of waves at night, smell of the salt spray, hot sand, shells, sea glass, coconut juice, sunburn, smell of suntan oil, and the little centers of decor that wife Lin has in various spots in the house.

Not to mention the vintage hula girl print in the kitchen!

  14. I love sea glass, we called them mermaid tears when I was a child growing up on the Pacific. Then you found lots and if it was still sharp to the touch, you threw it back in the ocean to "cook" some more.

Strange, we didn't give a thought to the people who were throwing their bottles (trash) into the water in those days. Overall, we found little garbage then, not like today.

  15. Well, aside from your beautiful picture, I'd say my collection of seashells.

  18. Hi Maya
Thanks for adding me to our blog roll. Have to admit...I am thoroughly enjoying "meeting" all these wonderful people in blog land. What took me so long!

Re: the erosion fall...not so soft...sandals flying in different directions...clothes from shoulders to toes covered in sand...but a great big belly laugh! That part truly felt wonderfully freeing...like being at the beach!

  21. Shells...I have them everywhere in the summer. But I adore sea glass and love that idea.

  22. I picked up a small but unusual shell on the beach on our honeymoon, and managed to make it into a pendant necklace. I love to wear it for sentimental reasons, but it attracts quite a few comments too.

  23. Great picture! My entire home is decorated like a beach cottage... but the smell of suntan lotion always makes me think of the beach!

  24. I live on a peninsula on the WA coast. It has taken me years to get here and I love to hear the sound of the waves in the winter and the excitement when you find something great on the beach...glass floats perhaps...
